  • Frankincense- Matthew 2:11 And going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.

  • Myrrh- Myrrh was an ingredient of Ketoret: the consecrated incense used in the First and Second Temples at Jerusalem, as described in the Hebrew Bible and Talmud. Myrrh is also listed as an ingredient in the holy anointing oil used to anoint the tabernacle, high priests and kings.

  • Hyssop - Hyssop is mentioned six times in the Bible. In Psalm 51:7 David wrote "Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow." The sixth reference is during Jesus' crucifixion when Hyssop was dipped in vinegar and wiped across Jesus' lips to ease the suffering.

  • Cedarwood - The Bible describes the cedar tree as strong and durable (Isaiah 9:10), graceful and beautiful (Psalm 80:10, Ezekiel 17:23), high and tall (Amos 2:9, Ezekiel 17:22), fragrant (Song of Songs 4:11) and spreading wide (Psalm 80:10-11).

  • Balsam Fir - Is usually "spices" but in the Revised Version, margin (Song of Solomon 5:1,13; 6:2) is rendered as "balsam." It was an ingredient in the anointing oil of the priests (Exodus 25:6; 35:28). The Queen of Sheba brought it as a present to Solomon (1 Kings 10:2)

  • Sandalwood - Sandalwood, one of the Biblical aromatics, is frequently referred to as “aloes.” It is mentioned in the Old Testament as a beautiful perfume (Psalm 45:8, Proverbs 7:17, Song of Solomon 4:14), and a tree that God planted (Numbers 24:6)

  • Spikenard - Spikenard is mentioned in the Bible being used for its fragrance. ... The Bible also mentions spikenard as being used by Mary of Bethany to anoint Jesus's head and/or feet. And being in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, as He sat at the table, a woman came having an alabaster flask of very costly oil of spikenard.

  • Juniper Needle - In the Old Testament, a juniper with an angelic presence sheltered the prophet Elijah from Queen Jezebel's pursuit. A later biblical tale tells of how the infant Jesus and his parents were hidden from King Herod's soldiers by a juniper during their flight into Egypt.

  • Cassia - An aromatic plant, probably cinnamon (Psalms 45:8; Ezekiel 27:19). An ingredient of the sacred oil (Exodus 30:24)
